Lab 1: Responding to Climate Change Stories

One of the first things I noticed when reviewing these articles is that the subject of Climate Change is always made into a political thing. I have noticed a trend in where climate change has become more of a political debate rather than scientific fact. Overall, I think the information was presented well and a few things stood out to me.

In the Reuters article, “Key takeaways from the U.N. climate panel’s report” the use of video and pictures draw you in at first. Also, the formatting of the work flows well and is easy to read and has strong diversity of content. I also liked the use of different texts and blurbs used throughout before going more in depth. The way the work is separated into sections with the main topic at the forefront in all caps, makes it easy for readers to digest and follow the content.

Moving onto the some of The Journalist’s Resource works, the first article I looked at was one about an experimental online advertising campaign that led Republicans to shift their views on climate change. This one had a very similar flow to the Reuters work and highly utilized blurbs and links throughout the article. This article is really optimized for searching. It is structed well and has numerous links and infographics throughout that support their findings.

All of the content is very informative, provides videos, pictures, links and a range of diverse content. You can tell the writers are truly passionate about this issue just from the writing styles and amount of research that is linked within to support their work. I think each story was well supported and captured the devastation the climate change causes.
